Akash Acharya is male, 34 and lives in Surat, a city in western India. Akash works as a faculty (Assistant Professor) with Centre for Social Studies (CSS) which is a research institute supported by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Akash is a PWS since his childhood and always craved for networking among PWS even before the advent of Internet. He had tried to establish a Self Help Group (SHG) in Surat long back after reading books of Stuttering Foundation of America (SFA) given by a PWS medical doctor to him in Surat. Through internet, he came in touch with the wealth of information available on it and during one of his conference visits to London, established contacts with the British Stammering Association (BSA). Akash was also trying to build bridges among Indian PWS and he came in touch with Sachin Srivastava, brainchild behind establishment of The Indian Stammering Association (TISA) in April, 2008. In his role of core group member of TISA, Akash has been active in trying to develop linkages with other such associations across the world in countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Mauritius, Germany, China, Denmark and Poland. Akash wishes to take this forward while serving on the board of ISA. In his professional capacity on invitation, Akash has visited Universities in the USA, UK and Germany. He can be contacted at akash.acharya@gmail.com
